Dr. Floyd Hayes

Professor of Biology

Dr. Hayes has been on 11 international mission trips with PUC students in Kenya, Fiji, and Brazil, including four organized by Hayes. In addition to assisting with community development, the lab portion of a tropical biology course is taught during each trip.

Dr. Sung has been part of the medical mission trips, which developed from a single-person journey to a group of 50 members, with seven physicians/surgeons, seven dentists, and another eight allied health professionals.

Previous Mission Trips

Sri Lanka July 7-12, 2025

PUC Biology Professors Backil Sung, Aimee Wyrick, and Floyd Hayes, along with 12 of their students, served in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Also on the mission trip were volunteers from Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, China, and Hong Kong. All 110 of them provided medical and dental services, offered counseling, reinstalled electrical power lines, addressed financial needs, and hosted Vacation Bible School

Peru
March 21-31, 205

Three professors and 13 students from Pacific Union College served in the Amazon basin of Pucallpa, Peru. With Maranatha organizing the mission trip, they brought leaders and a construction team to supervise their work on a church.  In addition, five students and three teachers from Orangewood Academy traveled to Peru to further PUC’s mission.

Fiji
March 22-30, 2025

19 students alongside five nursing faculty and staff from Pacific Union College provided physicals, well visits, and regular physician office and dental care to 311 patients in Mana, Fiji.

Students checked patients' vital signs, monitored their glucose levels, and recorded medical history and complaints. With a dentist on duty, students assisted and learned how to give fluoride treatments and educated the community on oral hygiene.

July 10 - 21, 2024

PUC had medical professionals, including MDs, DDS, pharmacists, nurses, other allied health professionals, and students volunteering for a mission trip to Falakata, India.

Fiji
March 21 - April 2, 2024

he nursing and health science department sponsors an annual mission trip to Mana Island, Fiji. Five hundred people live on the remote island and lack any healthcare. 17 students join PUC Nursing Professor Sandy Ringer to gain public health hours and provide non-acute care to locals in Fiji. This year, they also brought along dentists to provide oral care and physical health needs.

Under the leadership of former Missions Director Fabio Maia and two co-leaders, Biology Professor Floyd Hayes and Nursing Professor Sandra Ringer, this year’s mission trip included 17 students. Nicolette Piaubert, a PUC nursing professor, also volunteered and helped lead healthcare services.

The school provided education and care to Masai girls whose families forced them into child marriages. PUC painted school buildings and provided supplies.

PUC donated computers and a projector to a girls’ secondary school and assisted local teachers, worked construction of a new clinic building, provided clinic health care, and hosted Vacation Bible School.
