Pacific Union College has seen a significant increase in student attendance at dorm worship. This attendance increase follows the combined efforts of students and staff to enhance these worship opportunities, showing how listening to students and tending to their spiritual needs strengthens their relationship with Christ and keeps them hungry for His word. On average, 100 to 120 students attend dorm worship weekly, a great improvement from last year when less than 60 students attended. Students are moving in numbers, encouraging their friends, and gathering together to share their faith. Last school year, Winning, Newton, and Andre Hall individually hosted worship open to all students. However, the scattered programs felt too similar to students, leaving them drained and unenthusiastic about any worship program. Throughout the week, fewer students attended. To fix this issue, student leaders and several staff members combined all dorm worship鈥攚ith Newton, Andre, and Winning Hall鈥攅very Tuesday night at Scales Chapel, adopting a three-week rotation to lead each program. This rotation allows students to develop more creative ways to enhance worship without the stress of feeling burnt out. From November 1-4, Pacific Union College welcomed 300 guests for their annual College Days.This included students from Calexico Mission School, Central Valley Christian Academy, Fresno Adventist Academy, Glendale Adventist Academy, La Sierra Academy, Lodi Adventist Academy, Monterey Bay Academy, Mountain View Academy, Napa Christian, Newbury Park Adventist Academy, Pine Hills Adventist Academy, PUC Prep, Rio Lindo Adventist Academy, Sacramento Adventist Academy, and a church group from Costa Mesa.PUC Campus Visit Coordinator Andrianna Massena organized College Days for the third year, focusing on the feedback her team received in the past years and finding more ways to showcase campus life.Over the weekend, students had the opportunity to mingle during vespers and Afterlite, hear from PUC Chaplain Arturo Lopez during Sabbath School, hike in the Back 40, attend and participate in sporting events, explore St. Helena, and much more. Pacific Union College鈥檚 Aviation Program has a proud history. In the half-century since our airstrip was carved from the mountainside, generations of pilots have honed their flying skills here, mission planes have been launched to distant fields, and our graduates have departed to serve as aviation professionals throughout the United States and around the world. Last school year, the aviation program embarked on an exciting new journey. Changes within the aviation industry meant it was time for a new direction. The program that had served so well in the past was due for a major overhaul. Through valuable advice and personal stories from those who鈥檝e walked the path before them, the School of Science鈥檚 Alumni Seminar Series is helping Pacific Union College students navigate their academic journey and inspire their future career paths. The seminar series was the brainchild of Aimee Wyrick, dean of the School of Sciences and associate professor in the Department of Biology. She explained that the inspiration behind inviting PUC alumni to speak to current students included the desire to create connections and engage with seasoned perspectives. 鈥淲e wanted to give our current students an idea of what PUC alumni are doing and the great diversity of paths people take once they leave our college,鈥� Wyrick said. 鈥淭he alumni who participate can identify with what current students experience and can provide encouragement and perspective. The alumni series has expanded our community beyond the campus.鈥� Initially, the seminar series was a biology department initiative but widened to the basic sciences, including chemistry, math, and physics.
